Is our elearning living up to the promise?

The answer, sadly, is no. What research suggests would be good design isn’t reflected in what we typically see. Inspired by the agile manifesto and serious games, four individuals with knowledge and experience in the field created the Serious eLearning Manifesto. In it, eight values are presented that differentiate typical from serious elearning.

Typical elearning is focused on things like information presentation and knowledge test, ease of authoring, and an event model. Serious elearning, on the other hand, is focused on elements like meaningful practice and real outcomes. These eight values are further backed by 22 separate research-backed points about what learning can and should be.

With support from national and international orga-nizations, the Manifesto has received signatures from around the world. See what serious elear-ning can, and should, be.

Dott. Clark Quinn, PhD – Breve nota sullo speaker

Clark Quinn, Ph.D., helps Fortune 500, government, not-for-profit, and educational organizations align technology with how we think, work, and learn. He integrates creativity, cognitive science, and technology to develop award-winning online content, educa-tional computer games, and websites, as well as adaptive, mobile, and performance support systems.

After an academic career, Dr. Quinn has served as an executive in elearning initiatives and has an international reputation as a speaker and scholar, with five books and numerous articles and chapters.

He was awarded the eLearning Guild’s Guild Master award in 2012. Dr. Quinn consults through Quinnovation, tweets as @quinnovator and blogs at learnlets.com.
